The Appellate Chamber of the Higher Court in Novi Sad, acknowledging the appeals of the defendants’ lawyers, by majority vote, amended the decision of the Basic Court in Novi Sad and lifted the detention of defendants K.S., B.N., and R.D. For defendant D.N., detention was replaced with a measure prohibiting leaving the apartment with electronic monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In making this decision, the chamber particularly considered the duration of detention, which lasted more than four months, for criminal offenses subject to expedited criminal proceedings. The chamber lifted the detention for defendants who had no prior convictions, as well as for a defendant previously fined for a different type of criminal offense. Regarding defendant D.N., who had previously received a suspended sentence for a similar criminal offense, and for whom circumstances still indicate a potential to repeat the crime in the near future, the chamber replaced detention with a milder measure, finding that these circumstances have weakened due to the time the defendant spent in custody, and that the purpose of detention in this specific case can be achieved with a milder measure,” stated the Higher Court in Novi Sad’s announcement, as reported by Danas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
