Another in a series of meetings between students, deans, and the rector of the University of Belgrade has been held. This time, the proposed Initiative on joint activities to preserve the university and fulfill student demands was discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Students, along with professors, associates, researchers, and the leadership of the University of Belgrade, continue to persevere in the fight for the fulfillment of initial demands, highlighted after the tragedy at the railway station when 16 people died. These activities are carried out in an academic, peaceful, and dignified manner, with a constant effort to preserve the University as a space for dialogue, decency, and shared concern for truth and the common good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are faced with different opinions within the academic community, especially concerning how to end the school year and the possibility of continuing blockades. At this sensitive moment, we need time to reconcile views and actions through democratic and academic means. The responsibility we bear as members of the academic community is reflected in defending public interest, respecting different positions, and insisting on consistency and decency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, it must be clearly stated that the responsibility for the continuation of the crisis does not lie with students and professors, but with those who have for months refused to respond to the basic and reasonable demands of the students. Silence and ignoring just appeals only deepen the crisis of trust and move us further away from a solution. Precisely for this reason, we call on all members of the academic community to remain committed to the ideas of open dialogue, solidarity, and concern for the future of society. The participants in the discussion expressed readiness for talks to continue in this spirit,” states the press release from the Rector’s Collegium of the University of Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dejan Filipovi\u0107, Pro-rector for Teaching at the University of Belgrade, stated after today’s three-hour discussion with the student delegation involved in the blockade, that negotiations will continue in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Filipovi\u0107 said that he could not provide more details at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the meeting, Petar Jovanovi\u0107, a student from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, also spoke, noting that there was no official agreement and that negotiations would resume in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are working to come up with concrete solutions,” Jovanovi\u0107 stated after the meeting, adding that a new meeting could be held in the near future, within the next two to three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jovanovi\u0107, the discussions were “a little heated,” but efforts are being made to reach a solution that suits everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
