{"id":177824,"date":"2025-05-16T19:34:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T17:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/?p=177824"},"modified":"2025-05-16T19:34:18","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T17:34:18","slug":"vucic-on-general-staff-case-no-falsification-no-delay-in-project-realization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/vucic-on-general-staff-case-no-falsification-no-delay-in-project-realization\/","title":{"rendered":"VU\u010cI\u0106 ON GENERAL STAFF CASE: &#8220;No falsification, no delay in project realization!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 has denied any delay in Jared Kushner&#8217;s firm&#8217;s plans to build a luxury hotel on the site of the bombed General Staff complex in Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The planned &#8220;Trump&#8221; chain hotel, owned by the family of Kushner&#8217;s father-in-law, US President Donald Trump, with an estimated value of $500 million, requires the demolition of the former Serbian Army General Staff building, which was significantly damaged during the 1999 NATO bombing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, however, Goran Vasi\u0107, the acting director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, was arrested on suspicion of falsifying documents to facilitate Kushner&#8217;s firm in realizing the project, Bloomberg reminds. The prosecution announced that the former head of the state institute for the protection of cultural heritage &#8220;abused his official position&#8221; by falsifying signatures on a document proposing the revocation of protection over the military building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There was no falsification whatsoever, and we will discuss everything with everyone,&#8221; Vu\u010di\u0107 said in response to a question from a Bloomberg reporter in Tirana, where he is participating in the European Political Community summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;You know, that&#8217;s what always happens,&#8221; Vu\u010di\u0107 said, comparing the accusations of falsification to those previously made by opponents of the &#8220;Belgrade Waterfront&#8221; project, which caused controversy and protests in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;And now everyone is very proud of that project,&#8221; Vu\u010di\u0107 assessed, stating that some former opponents of that project later even &#8220;bought apartments in that settlement that many of us could not afford.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Serbian President emphasized that Kushner&#8217;s plan for the General Staff is an &#8220;important project for us.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:#FFFFFF;color:#d21414\" class=\"has-inline-color\">FIND OUT MORE IN ENGLISH:<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fserbiantimes%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02h6ePULnu85UXJPpgYrNi38CUL23dSFjiZZc5G78iuGH3FxJBVVVzePZwDYch1WhHl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mali: Any comment could be interpreted as interference in the investigation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sini\u0161a Mali, unlike Vu\u010di\u0107, was much more reserved yesterday regarding Vasi\u0107&#8217;s arrest, stating that any comment on the matter could be interpreted as interference in the work of the prosecution and the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mali also refused to comment on the New York Times article on the topic, for which Kushner&#8217;s company, Affinity Partners, stated that they played no role in reviewing the cultural status of the site and that the project&#8217;s fate is now less clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I will not comment on what the New York Times wrote, nor can I comment on investigations. I cannot comment on something that is in the process of the prosecution&#8217;s work,&#8221; Mali stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sini\u0161a Mali added that due to the independence of the judiciary and the prosecution, any comment could be misinterpreted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;So, let them do their job, and when they finish, we will know what and how it is, and then we can react.
