His relics have been kept in the Ostrog Monastery in Montenegro, as a great holy site, for more than 300 years. It is a place of pilgrimage for believers of other religions as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saint Vasilije of Ostrog was born in the village of Mrkonji\u0107i, in Popovo Polje, Herzegovina. He became a monk and began his ascetic life in the Trebinje Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Bishop of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Skenderija, he lived in the Tvrdo\u0161 Monastery.
