Pope Leo XIV today, in his first address to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, called on the world’s leading powers to wage wars no more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly elected Pope also appealed for a true and lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as a truce in Gaza and the release of all Israeli hostages, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo XIV at the same time welcomed the latest truce reached between India and Pakistan, and added that he prays to God to grant the world a “miracle of peace.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, the Pope held a silent mass with the presence of only one altar server near the tomb of Saint Peter. As announced by the Vatican, the Pope was accompanied only by the head of his Augustinian order, Alejandro Moral Ant\u00f3n, AP reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The silent mass was held in the grottoes beneath St. Peter’s Basilica, where, according to tradition, the apostle believed to be the first Pope is buried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
