There is no doubt that inflation and margins have taken their toll. Although we are far from the hyperinflation of the nineties, every new entry into the store from week to week raises the suspicion that something has gotten more expensive again, because it seems that there is less and less in the basket, and the bill is getting higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is the situation when you go abroad? Experiences vary, depending on the supermarket chain, city, country, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2021, according to Eurostat research, Serbia has the highest food prices in the region, with the explanation that prices of consumer goods and services in Serbia are at the level of 60 percent of the EU average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the latest Eurostat surveys from 2023 states that prices in Serbia are similar to those in the EU, but that wages are twice as low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our colleague was on vacation in Italy and we asked her to tell us how things stand on the &#8220;luxury shelves&#8221; in stores &#8211; primarily sweets, chemicals, and cosmetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_10809835\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nova.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/10\/1746860754-WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-09-at-12.29.52_57e56b1d-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10809835\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Omek\u0161iva\u010di Foto: Ivana Stojanov \/ Nova.rs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to chocolates, especially popular brands, the situation is similar &#8211; in Italy, it is usually 1.99 euros, in Serbia, it ranges from 200 to 300 dinars for 100 grams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"attachment_10809842\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nova.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/10\/1746860790-WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-09-at-12.29.52_18cbb8e5-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10809842\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u010cokolade Foto: Ivana Stojanov \/ Nova.rs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Things become different when it comes to chemicals, especially fabric softeners.
