The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates Pobusani Ponedeljak, or “Easter for the dead”, a day when the graves of the deceased are tidied and when dyed eggs are brought to the cemeteries.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first day after Thomas Sunday is Pobusani Ponedeljak. The custom on this day is to pobusati, that is, to tidy and clean the sod on the graves from weeds, after which this Monday got its name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who go to the graves today leave colored eggs, with the greeting: “Christ is Risen”, thus conveying the joy of the greatest Christian holiday to those who are no longer with us. That is why this day is also called “Easter for the dead”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In most places, eggs are dyed especially this morning, always in red and without patterns.
In some places, eggs from Easter are brought out, in others, eggs dyed on Bright Friday.
In some regions, eggs are also cracked against the monument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is assumed that the celebration of Pobusani Ponedeljak was taken from the Russians, where it is called Radonjica. In our country, it also bears the name “Ru\u017ei\u010dalo”, after the custom of young people becoming blood brothers\/sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
