At around <strong>9 AM<\/strong>, a meeting commenced between <strong>President Vu\u010di\u0107<\/strong> and representatives of the <strong>Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians<\/strong>, led by <strong>party president Balint Pastor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As previously announced, Vu\u010di\u0107 is also set to meet today with representatives of the <strong>Usame Zukorli\u0107 &#8211; United for Justice &#8211; Justice and Reconciliation Party &#8211; Bosniaks of Sand\u017eak<\/strong> list, <strong>Tomislav \u017digmanov &#8211; Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina<\/strong>, and the <strong>&#8220;We &#8211; The Voice of the People&#8221;<\/strong> parliamentary group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Monday<\/strong>, Vu\u010di\u0107 stated that he had sent a letter to all <strong>electoral list leaders and parliamentary groups<\/strong> in the <strong>National Assembly of Serbia<\/strong>, and that five or six lists had signed up to participate in consultations, which, he noted, will be concluded by <strong>Friday<\/strong>. He added that following the discussions, he expects the <strong>largest parliamentary group \u2013 SNS<\/strong> to inform him whether they <strong>intend to form a government<\/strong> or prefer <strong>new elections<\/strong>. What is certain, according to him, is that <strong>there is no willingness within the party to accept any kind of transitional government<\/strong>, a stance with which he agrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>March 19<\/strong>, the <strong>National Assembly acknowledged the resignation of Prime Minister Milo\u0161 Vu\u010devi\u0107<\/strong>, officially ending the mandate of the government. The deadline for forming a <strong>new government<\/strong> expires at <strong>midnight on April 18<\/strong>. According to <strong>Article 127 of the Serbian Constitution<\/strong>, the <strong>President of the Republic<\/strong> nominates a candidate for <strong>Prime Minister<\/strong> after <strong>consultations with elected parliamentary lists<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Article <strong>15 of the Law on Government<\/strong> states that the <strong>National Assembly elects the government<\/strong> based on the proposal of the <strong>prime minister-designate<\/strong>, and the government is considered elected if it receives the votes of a <strong>majority of all members of parliament<\/strong>. <strong>Milo\u0161 Vu\u010devi\u0107<\/strong>, the acting <strong>Prime Minister and SNS leader<\/strong>, previously stated that he <strong>supports the election of a new government<\/strong>, but that <strong>new elections cannot be ruled out<\/strong>. He emphasized the need for a <strong>new government with fresh faces, renewed energy, and the ability to stabilize the country<\/strong>, work on <strong>economic recovery, strengthening state institutions, and initiating social dialogue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)<\/strong> confirmed that its <strong>coalition<\/strong> will participate in consultations with Vu\u010di\u0107. In a statement, they announced that their <strong>Presidency unanimously decided to continue cooperation with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107<\/strong>, expressing readiness to engage in discussions regarding the formation and election of the <strong>new government<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, a segment of the <strong>parliamentary opposition<\/strong> has <strong>declined<\/strong> Vu\u010di\u0107&#8217;s invitation for <strong>consultations<\/strong>, stating they <strong>would only discuss a transitional government<\/strong>. In a joint statement, signed by the <strong>Party of Freedom and Justice, People&#8217;s Movement of Serbia, New Democratic Party of Serbia, POKS, Free Citizens\u2019 Movement, Serbia Center Party (SRCE), and the Green-Left Front<\/strong>, they declared that <strong>\u201cthe only way forward for Serbia is fulfilling students&#8217; demands\u201d and the peaceful transition of power through &#8220;fair elections&#8221;<\/strong>, which, they believe, should be <strong>organized by a transitional government<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:#FFFFFF;color:#d21414\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><mark style=\"background-color:#FFFFFF;color:#d21414\" class=\"has-inline-color\">FIND OUT MORE: <\/mark><\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fserbiantimes%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0ELxtp6TZPDCVaD6kh7wmYNDKAFAZCAXesLDZrRoVLuiigL9WvMxbfq7t2wioe1V7l&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>According to some media reports, <strong>the Democratic Party<\/strong> and the <strong>Ecological Uprising movement<\/strong> will <strong>not<\/strong> participate in the consultations, with representatives of the latter claiming they <strong>never even received an invitation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the <strong>&#8220;We, the Strength of the People&#8221;<\/strong> parliamentary group, led by <strong>Branimir Nestorovi\u0107<\/strong>, has also refused to attend the consultations, stating that <strong>\u201celections must be called as soon as possible\u201d<\/strong>. <strong>Shaip Kamberi<\/strong>, an MP representing the <strong>Albanian national minority<\/strong>, announced on Facebook that, on behalf of his <strong>&#8220;The Political Battle of Albanians Continues \u2013 Shaip Kamberi&#8221;<\/strong> electoral list, he had sent a letter to <strong>President Vu\u010di\u0107<\/strong>, informing him that they <strong>would not participate in the government formation consultations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If by <strong>midnight on April 18<\/strong>, when the <strong>30-day constitutional deadline<\/strong> for selecting a <strong>new Prime Minister and government members<\/strong> expires, a <strong>new government is not elected<\/strong>, the <strong>President of Serbia is obligated to dissolve the National Assembly and call elections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong>Article 59<\/strong> of the <strong>Law on the Election of MPs<\/strong>, elections are <strong>called by the President of the Republic<\/strong>, and the decision takes effect on the day it is <strong>published in the &#8220;Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia&#8221;<\/strong>.
