All selected projects are located within <strong>EU member states<\/strong> and were chosen from <strong>122 applications<\/strong> submitted in response to a public call last summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among them, there is <strong>no trace<\/strong> of the <strong>&#8220;Jadar&#8221; project<\/strong> or any other project from <strong>Serbia<\/strong>. The selected projects, published on the <strong>EC&#8217;s website<\/strong>, focus on <strong>14 critical raw materials<\/strong>, including <strong>lithium, aluminum, magnesium, cobalt, boron, nickel, manganese, graphite, and tungsten<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Milestone for EU&#8217;s Critical Raw Materials Strategy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These new strategic projects mark a <strong>significant milestone<\/strong> in the implementation of the <strong>Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA)<\/strong>, which aims to ensure that <strong>EU extraction, processing, and recycling<\/strong> of critical raw materials meet the <strong>bloc\u2019s demand by 2030<\/strong>. The goal is for <strong>extraction<\/strong> to cover <strong>10%<\/strong>, <strong>processing<\/strong> <strong>40%<\/strong>, and <strong>recycling<\/strong> <strong>25%<\/strong> of the EU\u2019s demand for critical raw materials by <strong>2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strengthening the EU&#8217;s Supply of Strategic Raw Materials<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>May 2024<\/strong>, the <strong>European Commission<\/strong> launched a <strong>call for strategic projects<\/strong>, with the first <strong>47 approved<\/strong> projects located in <strong>EU member states<\/strong>, including <strong>Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Estonia, Czechia, Greece, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Poland, and Romania<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These projects were selected based on their contribution to the <strong>EU\u2019s supply of critical raw materials<\/strong>, adherence to <strong>environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria<\/strong>, and their <strong>technical feasibility<\/strong>. SEOS emphasized that <strong>&#8220;regardless of what the European Commission decides,&#8221;<\/strong> there <strong>&#8220;will be no mine in the Jadar Valley.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;There will be no mine because it is disastrous and harmful to the citizens of Serbia from multiple perspectives,&#8221;<\/em> SEOS stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The environmental alliance expressed <strong>hope that reason will prevail<\/strong> and that <strong>Europe will not selfishly prioritize its own interests at the expense of others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;We hope Europe will not destroy the very foundations on which it was built, especially at a time when the people of Serbia are fighting for European values and against crime and corruption.
