General of the Yugoslav Army in the Homeland and leader of the Chetnik movement during World War II, Dragoljub Dra\u017ea Mihailovi\u0107, was executed on this day, July 17, 1946, in Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new authorities arrested him after the end of World War II, and following a brief trial, sentenced him to death by firing squad. To this day, the location of his grave remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The late Partisan general Jovo Kapi\u010di\u0107, who frequently spoke about his role in Mihailovi\u0107\u2019s capture, once told the media: “Even if I knew where he was buried, I wouldn\u2019t tell you, no matter what.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Possible locations for the general\u2019s burial site have been speculated, including Ada Ciganlija, Lisi\u010diji Potok, and Dedinje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In an effort to preserve the memory of \u010ci\u010da Dra\u017ea, a museum dedicated to the royal Yugoslav Army general was opened last year in Belgrade, on Bregalni\u010dka Street, in the house where he lived with his family from 1931 until the start of the war. Additionally, Dra\u017ea Mihailovi\u0107 has also been honored with a sculpture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “On Bregalni\u010dka Street, at the site of his former home, we are unveiling a monument to the \u2018graveless\u2019 General Mihailovi\u0107, the supreme commander of the \u2018graveless\u2019 Yugoslav Army in the Homeland.
