{"id":164849,"date":"2025-02-15T08:01:54","date_gmt":"2025-02-15T06:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/?p=164849"},"modified":"2025-02-15T08:01:54","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T06:01:54","slug":"great-honor-for-serbs-new-york-declares-sretenje-as-serbian-american-heritage-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/great-honor-for-serbs-new-york-declares-sretenje-as-serbian-american-heritage-day\/","title":{"rendered":"GREAT HONOR FOR SERBS: New York declares Sretenje as Serbian-American heritage day!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The City of New York and Mayor Eric Adams have proclaimed February 15, the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia \u2013 Sretenje \u2013 as Serbian-American Heritage Day in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Proclamation, delivered to Tanjug, the historical significance of Sretenje is emphasized, recalling the First Serbian Uprising in 1804, as well as the adoption of Serbia&#8217;s first modern constitution \u2013 the Sretenje Constitution of 1835 \u2013 which paved the way for international recognition of Serbian independence in 1878.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;New York is home to a large Serbian-American community&#8230; and we are deeply grateful for its significant contributions,&#8221; the Proclamation states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It adds that the Serbian community has made an exceptionally important contribution to the development of New York throughout history, as well as today, contributing to &#8220;its unique status as a cosmopolitan center.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Proclamation issued by Mayor Adams, as the leader of a city built by migrants, as he emphasized, it is stated that city officials, led by Adams, are honored to support multiculturalism in the metropolis with the largest number of nationalities in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Proclamation strongly affirms the gratitude and respect of the City of New York and Mayor Adams towards Serbia, Serbian-Americans, and the Serbian community living throughout New York, as well as towards the Consulate General of Serbia and Consul General Vladimir Bo\u017eovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement from the Consulate General in New York, it was added that New York has always been an encouraging environment for the achievements of great Serbian minds, such as Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:#FFFFFF;color:#d21414\" class=\"has-inline-color\">READ MORE: <\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fserbiantimes%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02GWCcSkaejmFicxB77XtyZzuXJ6JntbayawPNg9L7M65SFwrwAqcwCJF33Fmfnmsnl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"577\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Serbian creativity and artistic expression are reflected in New York, confirmed by the works of Marina Abramovi\u0107, Marina Arsenijevi\u0107, and other artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As highlighted, the Proclamation also testifies to the increasingly strong and substantial relations between Serbia and the United States, particularly within the dynamic context of New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Inspired and encouraged by this declaration, we remain committed to further strengthening the visibility of the Serbian presence here, for the benefit of the Serbian community, this great city, and the lasting friendship between Serbia and the United States,&#8221;
