According to <strong>Forbes Serbia<\/strong>, this is evident from testimonies given before the prosecutor, which have been included in the indictment that the media outlet had access to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, all families are <strong>seeking financial compensation<\/strong> for the tragedy they have endured. Most have <strong>not specified an amount<\/strong>, stating that they will decide on the <strong>compensation sum later in the process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The indictment does not specify when each family member testified, but for those whose statements are included, it shows that <strong>testimonies were given in early to mid-December<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Parents of the victims, children, or spouses<\/strong> testified before the prosecutor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testimonies indicate that <strong>none of them had direct knowledge of the accident, as they were not present at the scene<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tragic Collapse Kills 15, Leaves Two in Critical Condition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>collapse of the canopy<\/strong>, <strong>14 people were killed on the spot<\/strong>, while <strong>one later died in the hospital<\/strong>. Due to the <strong>massive weight of the collapsed structure<\/strong>, the victims sustained <strong>severe and fatal injuries<\/strong>. Two more people remain in the hospital with <strong>life-threatening injuries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Commission to Address Compensation Issues<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vida Petrovi\u0107 \u0160kero, a <strong>member of the Inquiry Commission<\/strong>, announced that the group <strong>will analyze official documents, investigate irregularities, and determine responsibility for the tragedy<\/strong>. At the first press conference, she confirmed that the <strong>commission will also address compensation claims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This group, in which I will be working, <strong>focuses on civil legal responsibility<\/strong>\u2014determining compensation, types of damages, and consequences of the <strong>canopy collapse<\/strong>, particularly those that should be covered by the <strong>budget of the Republic of Serbia<\/strong>,&#8221; Petrovi\u0107 \u0160kero stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She emphasized the <strong>need for a systematic approach<\/strong> to compensating victims, highlighting <strong>three key legal issues<\/strong>, including compensation for families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tragedy Linked to Corruption?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The first legal issue concerns <strong>compensation for material and non-material damages<\/strong> for victims of the <strong>canopy collapse<\/strong>, including <strong>families of the deceased and injured<\/strong>. A <strong>systematic method for victim compensation must be established<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why? Because we have seen, in previous tragedies, that the victims\u2014<strong>families of those killed\u2014were left to navigate the legal system alone<\/strong>. Also indicted are the <strong>former director of Serbian Railways Infrastructure Jelena Tanaskovi\u0107 and her predecessor Neboj\u0161a \u0160urlan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the others indicted are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CIP project designers<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>lead project designer<\/strong> responsible for construction permits,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>Republic Audit Commission officer<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Two responsible persons from the construction company<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Two individuals overseeing project supervision<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And a <strong>technical control officer<\/strong> for the Novi Sad train station reconstruction project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten of them <strong>are in custody<\/strong>, while <strong>Jelena Tanaskovi\u0107 and Anita Dimoski are under house arrest<\/strong>. <strong>Goran Vesi\u0107 has not been detained<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expert Analysis Reveals Key Failures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A forensic analysis conducted by <strong>professors from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad<\/strong> identified <strong>two critical issues<\/strong> that led to the collapse:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Severe corrosion<\/strong> on the <strong>roof of the train station<\/strong>, which significantly <strong>weakened the canopy\u2019s structural integrity<\/strong>.
