Renowned Serbian writer Jasminka Petrovi\u0107<\/strong> will hold several workshops<\/strong> for the Serbian diaspora in March<\/strong>, accompanied by a screening of the film based on her book “Summer When I Learned to Fly”<\/em>, which has been declared the family film of the decade in Serbia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first workshop is scheduled for March 1<\/strong> at the St. Nicholas Church hall in Lyons<\/strong>, while the venue for the second workshop in Chicago (March 2) will be announced later<\/strong>. The tour will continue in Washington<\/strong>, where a workshop will be held on March 7 at St. Luke\u2019s Church<\/strong>, followed by the film screening on March 8<\/strong>. This will be a fantastic experience for children aged 2-14<\/strong>, who will have the opportunity to enjoy Jasminka\u2019s famous workshops<\/strong>, which have been hosted worldwide, as well as watch the film<\/strong> “Summer When I Learned to Fly”<\/em> with their parents. The film has won over 20 awards at festivals across the globe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshops will be divided into three age groups<\/strong> and will be conducted in both Serbian and English<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am delighted to spend time with our children who are growing up far from the homeland of their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. We will learn together, share experiences, and have fun. If you don\u2019t speak Serbian fluently, don\u2019t worry\u2014we\u2019ll speak English if that\u2019s easier for you,”<\/em> said Jasminka Petrovi\u0107<\/strong> ahead of her visit to the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the workshop and film screening, Jasminka will answer questions from children and parents<\/strong> in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Jasminka Petrovi\u0107<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jasminka Petrovi\u0107 has written over 30 books<\/strong> for children and young adults. She has contributed to numerous magazines (TikTak, Veliko dvori\u0161te, Huper, Politikin Zabavnik<\/em>) and was the editor of National Geographic Junior<\/strong> in Serbian. She has also worked as an editor for a teen radio show<\/strong> and scriptwriter for the children’s TV series Kukuriku Show (RTS)<\/strong>. She actively participates in various programs and projects that encourage children’s imagination and creativity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her books have received numerous awards<\/strong> and have been translated into more than 25 languages<\/strong>. Some have been adapted into plays<\/strong> for children and youth in Belgrade, Sarajevo, Zagreb, and Stockholm<\/strong>. Her book “O dugmetu i sre\u0107i”<\/em> (About a Button and Happiness<\/em>) was adapted into a theater production<\/strong>, and the film “Zlogonje”<\/em> (The Witch Hunters<\/em>) was inspired by her work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her novel “Summer When I Learned to Fly”<\/em> (2015) has won prestigious awards<\/strong>, including Neven, Srebrno Ga\u0161ino Pero, Dositejevo Pero, Plavi \u010cuperak, Mali Princ<\/strong>, and others. It was included in the White Raven catalog<\/strong> of the International Youth Library in Munich<\/strong> as one of the 200 best children\u2019s books of 2015<\/strong>. The book has been adapted for theater<\/strong>, is part of the optional school reading list<\/strong>, and its film adaptation has won over 20 awards worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
