However, it has now <strong>turned the spotlight on the protests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When <strong>tens of thousands of demonstrators<\/strong> blocked <strong>three key bridges over the Danube River<\/strong> in <strong>Novi Sad<\/strong> this past weekend, <strong>paralyzing Serbia\u2019s second-largest city<\/strong>, the <strong>ruling party issued a sharp warning\u2014not to students and citizens, but to the public broadcaster covering them<\/strong>, writes <em>The New York Times<\/em> journalist <strong>Andrew Higgins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;After largely ignoring the three-month-long street demonstrations led by students across the country, <strong>Radio Television of Serbia (RTS)<\/strong>\u2014which has long served as <strong>President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107\u2019s propaganda megaphone<\/strong>\u2014suddenly changed its tune and placed the protests in <strong>Novi Sad<\/strong> among its top news stories,&#8221; <em>The New York Times<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:#FFFFFF;color:#d21414\" class=\"has-inline-color\">FIND OUT MORE IN ENGLISH:<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fserbiantimes%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02TShs1iziyH9A5CGk9CVGYRsj2PsuXSKuZLd4ckutscPzK8d2fZaaML8tk7JphiQcl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;What\u2019s even worse, at least for the ruling party, is that RTS <strong>reported factually<\/strong>, without condemning the demonstrators as <strong>foreign intelligence operatives or opposition puppets<\/strong>, as it had done in the past,&#8221; the American media outlet adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Serbian Progressive Party<\/strong>, led by <strong>Vu\u010di\u0107<\/strong>, issued an <strong>unusually strong statement late Saturday<\/strong>, denouncing what it called the <strong>\u201cscandalous reporting\u201d<\/strong> by RTS.
