{"id":159083,"date":"2025-01-10T15:50:48","date_gmt":"2025-01-10T13:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/?p=159083"},"modified":"2025-01-10T15:50:48","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T13:50:48","slug":"indictment-under-review-court-rejects-prosecutions-request-to-detain-goran-vesic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/indictment-under-review-court-rejects-prosecutions-request-to-detain-goran-vesic\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;INDICTMENT UNDER REVIEW&#8221;: Court rejects prosecution\u2019s request to detain Goran Vesi\u0107!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Higher Court in Novi Sad has once again rejected the request of the Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office to detain former Minister of Construction Goran Vesi\u0107, following the indictment filed against him and 12 others over the collapse of a canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court\u2019s decision noted, among other things, that on November 27 of last year, Vesi\u0107\u2019s detention was lifted due to a lack of reasonable suspicion that he had committed a serious crime against public safety related to the crime of causing general danger, which is now the subject of the indictment, according to the court\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was further stated that the indictment is currently in the phase of assessing its validity and that the prosecutor\u2019s request for Vesi\u0107\u2019s detention at this stage of the proceedings remains unclear and unsubstantiated, particularly since the prosecutor has not presented new facts or circumstances to support the request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:#FFFFFF;color:#d21414\" class=\"has-inline-color\">FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK:<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fserbiantimes%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02ZP97tebn2GYS5SvpQ6F16a9DfKZuZudHniBAmTovJVyWsfSs15j7SriJJ1fdHZYQl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>The Appellate Court recently upheld the prosecution\u2019s appeal and returned the case to the Higher Court for reconsideration of Vesi\u0107\u2019s detention, but the Higher Court has again rejected the request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vesi\u0107 is one of 13 individuals indicted over the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people and severe injuries to two others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prosecution has filed charges against 13 people, 11 of whom are in custody, while two are under house arrest.
