Comparing the situations in Crimea and Kosovo, Lavrov said the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;When the United States and other Western countries recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo, they said that it was the implementation of the people&#8217;s right to self-determination. But there was no referendum in Kosovo. It was a unilaterally declared independence. After that, the Serbs turned to the International Court of Justice, which is usually not very determined in its judgments, ruled that if part of a territory declares independence, it is not necessary for the central authority to agree with that,&#8221; Lavrov pointed out and added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A few years later, the people of Crimea held a referendum and invited many international observers, representatives of parliaments of European countries, Asia, former Soviet republics&#8230; the same court said: &#8216;No, we cannot recognize this because it is a violation of territorial integrity.'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Taker-Karlson-Sergej-Lavrov1-1024x642.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-161836\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked what he thinks of Trump, Lavrov stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I met him several times when President Putin spoke with him and he received me twice in the Oval Office. I think he is a very strong person who seeks results, who doesn&#8217;t like to put things off. He is very friendly in discussions, but that doesn&#8217;t mean he is pro-Russian, as some try to portray him.
