Ukrainian authorities have reported that North Korean soldiers in Russia’s Kursk region came under fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first North Korean soldiers deployed in Russia’s border Kursk region, who are there to support Moscow’s war efforts, were targeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyiv Independent reports that this was announced this morning by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Department for Combating Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the firefight or any potential casualties among the troops under the command of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ukrainian site notes that it cannot independently verify Kovalenko’s claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is recalled that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated last week that around 8,000 soldiers from North Korea have been deployed to the Kursk region to participate in Russia’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intense fighting has been ongoing in that Russian region since Ukraine launched a cross-border offensive in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is reported that Moscow sent North Korean troops to the Kursk region to bolster defenses in the area as more experienced Russian units continue to advance in eastern Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
