(VIDEO)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yesterday, on the grounds of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/tag\/CHURCH\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Church <\/a><\/strong>of St. John in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/tag\/chicago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Chicago <\/a><\/strong>suburb of Homer Glen, the now traditional Chestnut Festival was held, organized by the Krajina Serbs Association &#8220;Prelo&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was an opportunity to preserve and remind people of the traditional autumn custom from <a href=\"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/tag\/serbia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>Serbian <\/strong><\/a>homelands, but also probably the only Serbian festival in the diaspora where \u0107evapi and grilled meat were in the background &#8211; the most sought-after was His Majesty &#8211; the chestnut!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&#038;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fantonije.kovacevic%2Fvideos%2F474507518936844%2F&#038;show_text=false&#038;width=267&#038;t=0\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>So much so that a small team in charge of its preparation was barely able to provide enough quantities. Of course, while waiting for chestnuts, you could have fun watching sports competitions in football, bowling, tug-of-war, stone throwing from the shoulder&#8230; or simply enjoy a sunny October day with live music and socializing with family or friends and acquaintances you don&#8217;t see every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Kestenijada-2024-11-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-155912\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of live music, Momo Stani\u0107 and Vuk Jon were in charge of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the football tournament, the United Serbs team from Milwaukee was the best, and our reporter was lucky enough to capture the decisive goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&#038;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fantonije.kovacevic%2Fvideos%2F997871438777273%2F&#038;show_text=false&#038;width=267&#038;t=0\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WINNING TEAM: Football players of the &#8220;United Serbian&#8221; team from Milwaukee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The president of the &#8220;Prelo&#8221; Association, Ljubomir \u0160pegar, was satisfied with how the event went:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-The goal was, as in previous years, to hold this event, to preserve the customs and traditions of our former region, and that is roasting chestnuts, homemade sausage and \u0107evapi, socializing. I think the goal was achieved, we had a lot of guests, the weather served us well. Chestnuts today even outperformed \u0107evapi, which can be made at any time, unlike chestnuts, which belong to this autumn season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">WELL-ORGANIZED, KRAJINA PEOPLE IN THEIR ELEMENT: Ljubomir \u0160pegar and Svetozar Dan\u010duo <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked where the chestnuts were sourced from, \u0160pegar boasted that they were sourced from the American state where chestnuts are most popular: -We purchase chestnuts directly from the producer, from a farm in the state of Iowa, and we are very satisfied with the delivery, price, and quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Kestenijada-2024-4-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-155913\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ANOTHER TRADITION: Krajina people and Dalmatians didn&#8217;t forget to play balote\/bocce <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chestnut Festival was attended this year by Serbs from all parts of Chicago, as well as Indiana and Milwaukee, whose representatives particularly distinguished themselves in sports disciplines, as they won in football and tug-of-war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Kestenijada-2024-12-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-155914\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, another great event that preserves the tradition of the Serbian people, and is organized by the Prelo association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped
