Residents of several villages in the Municipality of Krupanj have been without electricity for five days. According to reports sent to our editorial office, locals are desperate as the power outage has caused numerous problems, putting the elderly, sick, and children at risk—all due to heavy snowfall, while authorities, it seems, are taking no action.
Residents from the village of Kržava and surrounding areas explained in a letter to Nova.rs that they are entering the fifth day without electricity and that they were informed by the “Electric Power Industry of Serbia” that power will not be restored until Monday.
“Electricity has been out since Christmas Eve. We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in darkness and cold, without heating and without any reliable information. Food in refrigerators and freezers is spoiling rapidly, people are suffering significant material damage, and the elderly, sick, and children are at risk,” the distraught residents said.

In addition to being without electricity, they say that roads are impassable, villages are “cut off from the world,” and authorities are blaming the snow.
“As if snow in January is something unexpected. What is even more concerning is the information we received from Elektrodistribucija, stating that it is very possible the electricity will not be restored even by Monday. So we publicly ask: Is it normal in the 21st century for an entire municipality to be without basic infrastructure for days?” they questioned.
They emphasize that this is not a natural disaster but a clear example of extreme negligence, years of poor maintenance of the electricity network, and complete unpreparedness of the system.
“The villagers have clearly been left aside, without answers and without accountability from those who are paid to ensure this infrastructure functions,” the residents stated.
