Who are the new, younger Vračarci? A criminal group made up mostly of minors or those who have just come of age, engaged in extorting money from restaurateurs, entrepreneurs and company owners. In recent days, the establishments “Babaroga,” “Džeri,” a venue in Kolarčeva Street, have been attacked, and an unexploded device was found in front of a well-known wine shop in Vračar. Unofficially, these attacks have been going on for several months, their mutual connection is being investigated, and despite arrests, the newspaper Nova writes that this group is not calming down.
Some new kids – only they are not stealing cherries and green apricots, but extorting money and calling themselves the young Vračarci, i.e. the youth wing of the Vračar clan. Among them there are minors, against whom no proceedings were previously conducted, which is, among other things, why they are recruited. In a short time, numerous hospitality venues, mostly in the city center, found themselves on their target list, and their modus operandi was the subject of the newspaper Nova.
“After they find a venue they want to extort, the young men would first ask employees about the owner, his movements, they would contact him via WhatsApp, sending threatening messages. They appear at the doorstep of the company or venue, introduce themselves, demand a certain sum of money and set a deadline for payment. These are hefty sums exceeding 100,000 euros. If they do not receive the money, they respond by setting cars on fire, planting explosives, committing arson,” Nova writes.
“They have lived for 12, in fact 14 years in a country where everything is allowed and they simply want their piece of the pie. These are not children from the social margins, from broken families, these are young men, and even some girls, who come from relatively good and stable families, but for some reason have decided to engage in crime,” says Nova.rs journalist Miloš Ž. Lazić.
The Belgrade police are reacting, but the arrests are not calming the so-called young Vračarci. In support of this, Nova writes that in the case of the restaurant Babaroga, a bomb was thrown just a few hours after suspects for extortion were detained at that venue.
“It has been established that the group has more than 50 members and precisely their numbers enable them, despite the arrests that have taken place in recent days, to quickly regroup and continue with criminal acts and seeking new victims,” Nova writes.
“It is impossible that this group is so well organized and that it started doing this in the last month, it has only escalated in the last month or two, probably due to turbulence in the underworld and a reshuffling of forces, these young lions are coming,” says Lazić.
And since we are not in the jungle, or at least we should not be, such lions cannot and must not be kings.
