The mayor of Novi Pazar, Nihat Biševac, has called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and relevant state authorities to “immediately” and “fully” inform the public about the death of Samir Dolovac.
Dolovac passed away on January 21 at the Clinical Center in Kragujevac, where he had been transported on November 10 from Novi Pazar due to injuries he allegedly sustained from police officers on October 30 of last year, according to his family members, as reported by the portal Radio Sto Plus.
“An open, clear, and impartial institutional response is of critical importance to prevent speculation, abuse, and further tensions among citizens. System institutions must act professionally, lawfully, and in a timely manner, and any potential failure must be thoroughly investigated and sanctioned in accordance with the law,” Biševac stated in a press release, according to the media outlet.
A few days ago, the Citizens’ Assembly of Novi Pazar also demanded a transparent investigation and reaction from state authorities.
The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Pazar previously announced that it had ordered an autopsy of Dolovac’s body and issued instructions to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Belgrade to determine the circumstances of his death, Radio Sto Plus reports.
They also noted that the MUP’s Internal Control had already submitted a report containing statements from witnesses and the police officers involved in the case.
