Foreign Minister Marko Đurić stated that, according to available information, there are currently about ten Serbian citizens in Syria and that they are people with dual citizenship.
“Syria is a large country and the situation there is so challenging at the moment that it is impossible to give a precise answer to the question of whether these people are in any danger,” Đurić said in an interview for today’s Kurir newspaper.

As he pointed out, “in conditions of interrupted or difficult communications and such intense social and political upheaval, it is impossible to maintain constant contact with our citizens,” but he also believes that when the situation stabilizes, more precise information will be available.
“At this moment, for example, we know, based on information received from international humanitarian organizations, that a certain number of our citizens are in detention camps in eastern Syria controlled by the Kurdish SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces),” Đurić said.
