What an explosion by Nikola Jokić! The Serbian center started the game in Atlanta poorly, shooting 2-for-13 in the opening minutes, and then a rhapsody began that no one could stop. It ended with Jokić scoring 40 points and Denver winning a thrilling match 134:133!
It wasn’t just Nikola who started the game weakly; his teammates joined him, resulting in a large lead for the Hawks in the first half, which at one point reached 23 points (71:48).
In the continuation, the Nuggets collected themselves slightly, the difference began to melt away, and Jokić took the game into his own hands.
The finish was exciting, but Denver managed to maintain the lead, and the deciding points were scored by, who else but the Serbian national player, from the free-throw line.
In the end, besides 40 points (13-for-26 shooting), his tally included 8 assists and 9 rebounds. Murray delivered another strong performance with 23 points, 12 assists, and 5 rebounds, while Hardaway with 17 and Johnson with 16 points were also solid.
For the home team, Alexander-Walker stood out with 30 points (5 reb), Porzingis with 25 points, and the sensational young Jalen Johnson with a grandiose triple-double – 21 points, 16 assists, and 18 rebounds! Jokić, it seems, has found some competition!
The Nuggets, with a 16-6 record, climbed to third place in the West, while Atlanta is ninth in the East at 13-11.
The next game for Jokić’s “Nuggets” is against Charlotte on Sunday, which will conclude their East Coast road trip.
