Metropolitan of Budimlje-Niksic Metodije served liturgy today at the church of Saint Mother Paraskeva in the village of Gornje Zaostro, in the municipality of Berane.

Locals and citizens of the village of Zaostro and surrounding villages were gathered.

A monument in honor of the Chetnik commander from the Second World War, Pavle Djurisic, was erected yesterday in the immediate vicinity of the church. The monument was covered with blue nylon today, and the gathered citizens did not allow the police to remove it.

The police told Pobjeda that they intervened on the spot, but agreed with the gathered people that the monument would be removed by the locals themselves after the liturgy was performed and it was consecrated.

“To Duke Pavle and all the soldiers, warriors, officers, non-commissioned officers and fighters of the Yugoslav army in the homeland, eternal memory,” said Metodije.

The metropolitan said that he would put the monument in the church, “so let them come and tear down the church.”
