A group of judges and prosecutors from all over Serbia called on judges, prosecutors, lawyers, students, and citizens to protest against, as they state, political pressure on the judiciary, primarily due to the announced changes to the laws related to TOK (Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office) and because a prosecutor from the First Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade was not allowed to carry out an investigation in the tent settlement in front of the Assembly.

Judges, prosecutors, lawyers, students, and citizens gathered in front of the Constitutional court. Several speakers will address the gathering, who will talk about the pressures they face in their work, with a special emphasis on the pressures exerted in the interior of Serbia.

They will then go for a short walk to the Faculty of Law, where speeches will also be held, as well as 16 minutes of silence for the victims who died in the canopy collapse, writes N1.

A large number of people gathered in front of the Constitutional court, where the gathering began with the intonation of the national anthem.

“We do not succumb to pressure”

“We do not succumb to pressure” is one of the banners the gathered people will carry at the protest.

The central banner reads “Justice is blind, the judiciary is not.”

Changes to judicial laws, changes that would, conditionally speaking, mean the “disappearance” of the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office, are some of the reasons that brought legal professionals out onto the street.

Prosecutor Bojana Savović: Courage is contagious, as is cowardice Prosecutor Bojana Savović said she was proud that, despite having the lowest salaries in Europe, they gathered here today not for themselves, but for the rule of law.

“I want to thank all the judges and prosecutors who have been called foreign mercenaries, terrorists, blockaders, because they did not fulfill the wishes of the executive power, but respected the law. Thank you for spreading courage, because courage is contagious, as is cowardice,” she said.

She thanked all other people in Serbia who defend their profession.

“I would especially thank the people working in the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, who are not handing over the keys to the Central Register,” she said.
