The Serbian Orthodox Church has dedicated this day to the Holy Martyrs in Eugenia. According to belief, only the Lord knows their names, having written them in the Book of the Living in heaven.
According to folk belief, it is not good to hold weddings, engagements, godparent ceremonies, or sworn brotherhoods today; loans should neither be taken nor given, and houses should not be built, nor any work done around the house.
Relics of the apostle Andronicus
“Many martyrs in Eugenia, near Constantinople, during the time of Emperor Arcadius, uncovered the relics of many martyrs of Christ, among them the apostle Andronicus and his helper Junia.”
As it is believed: These relics were found according to a revelation from God to a cleric named Nicholas Kalligraphos.
“Their names are known only to the Lord, who has written them in the Book of the Living in heaven.” Above the relics of the apostle Andronicus, Emperor Andronikos I built a magnificent church in the 12th century.
