VUČIĆ ON MADURO’S ARREST: After what happened in Venezuela, we will double our military capacities so we can defend ourselves!

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said after the session of the National Security Council that there were three topics — regional military and political security with a review of the situation in Europe and the world, energy security and safety, and the American action on the territory of Venezuela. He stated that appropriate conclusions had been reached.

“We are aware of Serbia’s position in the region of Southeast Europe. The complexity of our position will become even more pronounced, especially as the old world order is collapsing, no rules apply, and the UN order exists only on paper. This is clear after the action in Venezuela. In the world, the law of force dominates, the law of the stronger. Whoever is stronger oppresses. That is the only principle that exists in the modern world,” he said.

Vučić stated that it is enough to see how certain representatives of European countries are reacting to what happened in Venezuela.

“They have their own petty interests. You can see that there are no principles anywhere. We are particularly concerned about the continued arming of Pristina, contrary to the UN Charter and Resolution 1244, which has been de facto suspended by major Western powers and certain regional players such as Turkey. A particular threat to the security and territorial integrity of Serbia is the newly formed alliance of Pristina, Tirana, and Zagreb, which also includes joint development of complex bobrenih systems, from four-by-four vehicles to ideas for more powerful weapons and armaments. Serbia is monitoring this carefully, and not only are we monitoring it, but we are also preparing to defend ourselves against those who no longer show threats only covertly, but openly,” he said.

Vučić stated that there will be new investments in the military industry and further staffing of special units, as well as continued armament.

“We will have significant strengthening of our military capacities in the coming period. In the next year and a half, I would say that we will double our military capacities, which is not easy because today we are not a weak and small army as we were until 2015. Apart from human capacities, which we will increase by about 30 percent, everything else we will increase by about 100 percent. One part comes from our own country, and one part we are procuring from abroad,” the president said.

“After what happened in Venezuela, it is clear that we must rely on ourselves and on our own nag. And if some in the region move against us, no one will help us except ourselves. America will not attack us, nor some great powers. It is up to us to be ready. Well prepared. That is why they are waging such a campaign against our army and against me.”

Vučić said that at this moment there is no danger from a potential aggressor, which does not mean that such a “danger will not exist in a few months or a year.”

He also stated that when it comes to energy security, major changes are taking place in the world.

“I don’t know if you noticed that President Trump established the U.S. Agency for Dominance in the Sphere of Energy in the World. It operates at the White House. Everywhere in the world they will do everything to drive out competition, primarily Russia and China,” the President of Serbia said.
