President Aleksandar Vučić said today that representatives of the opposition in Strasbourg demanded the introduction of sanctions for their country and their people and pointed out that this shows a great lack of their moral credibility.
“I think it speaks, first of all, to a great lack of moral credibility. Many people and friends asked me today, so what did you expect? Because I was asking them all day, busy now that I’ve finished those meetings, I say, is it possible that they really did this? Is it possible that they really asked for sanctions against their own people, against the holders of power? They say, that’s not the people. Yes, that is the people,” said Vučić for Prva.
He pointed out that when you ask for sanctions against the holders of power, you are asking for them against your own state and your own people.
“They also asked for them against police officers and their children. Why? Because they were enduring attacks every day on the street. They literally endured brutal attacks, when they beat police officers with four-meter poles and then said that the police officers were actually trampling everything in front of them, destroying, tearing down everything in front of them and so on. That is a lack of moral credibility because I was sure that they could not go so far,” Vučić emphasized.
He added that as a politician, he has never asked for the introduction of sanctions against anyone from our country.
Vučić stated that he was probably wrong to call the MEPs of the European Green Party scum after they attended a student protest in Novi Sad, but then said that he thinks much worse of them.
“They say I insulted them because I said they were scum. To be completely honest – I think much worse of them. But was I wrong to call them by that name, I probably was – a head of state should not use that word in public discourse,” Vučić said for Prva television.
According to him, they came to participate “in violent demonstrations, to carry out violence in another country and after that they also lied and deceived the public about what happened.” Vučić claims that everyone can see what happened at that protest and who attacked whom, asserting that the police officers stood peacefully and endured attacks at the protest in Novi Sad before the intervention.
Speaking about the situation in the region, he assessed that Serbia will face big problems, such as the creation of military alliances in the region.
“After the military alliance Tirana-Pristina-Zagreb, an additional military alliance Zagreb-Ljubljana has been created. It is quite certain that this was not created because of militarily neutral Austria, but of course because of Serbia. They unequivocally expect the entry of Bulgaria (into that alliance) as well,” Vučić said, adding that Serbia cannot get an answer from NATO about these alliances.
Many Do Not Understand That Serbia Must Have Gas This Year
Regarding the criticism from MEPs for meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in China, Vučić said that many do not understand that Serbia must have gas this year.
“I can like or dislike Putin or Russia, and I have nothing against being completely open, just as I have nothing against any country in the world, but I must take care of the citizens of Serbia. Our citizens must have enough gas, our factories must have enough gas, we must have enough electricity this winter,” he said.
According to him, it is the West’s job to criticize his meetings with the presidents of Russia and China, but the West also has enough gas and enough electricity.
“We do not. We have oil, which we get only through one channel – Janaf, which the Europeans can always turn off for us. And we have a Russian refinery – NIS,” Vučić said.
Minimum Wage Goes to 550 Euros from January 1
The president announced that from October 1, the minimum wage in Serbia will be increased to 500 euros, and from January 1, 2026, to 550 euros.
“With that, we are reducing poverty. We are helping the lower layer of the middle class or the poorer layer, of which there are fewer and fewer, but they are still there. With that, we show care for ordinary people. That is the most important task for us. And that’s why we will continue to do that in the future,” Vučić said.
He said that he should travel to Japan soon, where he will visit the Serbia pavilion at the Expo in Osaka, but that this will depend primarily on the situation in our country.
“If I go, I should have a meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan, to visit our presentation in the Serbia pavilion at the Expo in Japan. So far, 800,000 people have visited it, out of a total of 20 million people who have visited the Expo,” Vučić said and pointed out that this speaks to the enormous popularity of our pavilion, which is one of the most visited.
He said that he should also see Japanese businessmen and representatives of their chamber of commerce.
“It is possible that I will be received by the emperor. People, today Israel attacked Qatar. If someone had asked you this morning if that was possible, you would have said no. You don’t know what will happen, so we don’t plan too much,” Vučić said.
He said that the most important thing for him is for us to jointly push the country forward.
“To protect our country, to preserve peace, to preserve stability, and this nervousness shown by the complete blockade movement with DOS politicians is only the result of failure, the result of frustrations, because it is clear to them that the attempt to overthrow the government on the street or a color revolution has failed, and our job is just to offer a hand, to offer dialogue, to offer debates. They used to say, there aren’t enough of us, we’re not in debates. When I offered them a debate, all of a sudden they don’t want a debate,” Vučić pointed out.
