In an extensive interview with “The Jerusalem Post,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić spoke at length about Serbian-Israeli relations, offering numerous praises for Tel Aviv.
After October 7, Vučić received a message from Israeli President Isaac Herzog within 24 hours. Within four days, despite complex international defense protocols, Serbia was ready to respond.
“On the evening of the eighth, we received a message from Israel: ‘We need these and these things. We are not fully prepared, we need it as soon as possible,'” Vučić recalled for “The Jerusalem Post,” as reported by Klix.
“I was the Minister of Defense, and I know how it goes – permits from various ministries, security and intelligence agencies, numerous state and non-state institutions… And we gathered all of that within four days and got the job done. That has never happened before in this country,” Vučić said.
Serbian arms exports to Israel reached 42.3 million euros in 2024, according to a joint report by “Balkan Insight” and “Haaretz” (based on customs data) – thirty times more than the previous year. Serbia has become a key link in Israel’s defense supply chain.
“Today, I am the only one in Europe who trades military ammunition with Israel. And that’s why my colleagues often criticize me,” Vučić stated.
The criticism has been sharp. Serbian investigative portal KRIK and German newspaper “Bild” accused Vučić of irregularities in arms trade. Vučić dismissed these allegations.
“I was not surprised by the level of attacks on the Jewish state and the Jewish people across Europe,” he said.
Despite the pressures, Vučić says he remains firm.
“In Serbia, the situation will always remain the same. We will always cherish, respect, and love the Jewish people and Israel. I truly mean that, I truly feel that,” the Serbian President said.
This sentiment was present not only in state institutions but also on the streets. When Israeli sports teams, both football and basketball, sought places to play their “home” games in European competitions due due to the worsening security situation, rocket attacks, and international boycotts – Serbia opened its doors to them.
