A person arrested during the investigation of the murder of the American conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a public rally on a university campus in Utah was released after questioning, FBI director Kash Patel announced on X.
The head of the federal police announced less than two hours earlier that a suspect in the “terrible shooting that killed Kirk is in custody”.
“Our investigation continues,” Patel added in a new post.
Utah security services believe the shooter fired from the roof of a building near the campus courtyard where Kirk was killed.
“We cannot provide any further clarification to protect the integrity of our investigation,” the authorities said, N1 reports.
Vigils for Kirk are being held across the USA.
US President Donald Trump announced earlier that conservative activist Charlie Kirk passed away after being shot during an event in Utah.
“The great, and even legendary, Charlie Kirk is dead,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Charlie Kirk was an American political activist, media personality, and founder of the organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which focuses on mobilizing young conservatives in the United States.
In 2012, at the age of 18, Kirk founded Turning Point USA, an organization that quickly expanded to more than 3,000 high schools and colleges across the US. TPUSA focuses on promoting free markets, limited government, and patriotism among young people.
