University of Belgrade (BU) Vice-Rector for Finance, Zorica Vujić, stated to N1 after giving testimony at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) that the discussion revolved around student blockades. She emphasized that she believes acts beyond their jurisdiction were attributed to the Rector’s Collegium and that pressure is being exerted.

“It referred to articles of the Criminal Code concerning abuse of office and negligent performance of duty. The summons to appear today arrived last night. It was fair, the questions related to student blockades and the information the Rectorate has about them, as well as the activities we undertook… Giving the statement took some time, I do not see my guilt in the acts from the criminal complaint. I get the impression that we were attributed acts for which we have no jurisdiction. I perceive this as additional pressure on the University,” Vice-Rector Vujić emphasized.

The statement lasted more than two hours.

Allegations and Other Collegium Members Summoned

The interrogation of University of Belgrade Vice-Rector for Finance Zorica Vujić began at 10:00 AM, in connection with a criminal complaint filed against her by Mario Spasić, Secretary-General of the Council for Monitoring, Human Rights, and the Fight Against Corruption Transparency.

Vujić, according to N1’s reporter, is accused of abuse of official position and negligent work in the profession.

In addition to her, other members of the Rector’s Collegium have also been summoned for questioning: Vice-Rector for Teaching Dejan Filipović, who will be interrogated tomorrow, Vice-Rector Nebojša Gojković, and BU Rector Vladan Đokić. There is no information yet on when they will be interrogated.

Danas reported that the portal Politika also wrote about these criminal complaints in late May.

That portal, Danas writes, conveyed Spasić’s statement that he filed the criminal complaints due to suspicion that the Rector and Vice-Rectors committed criminal acts of Abuse of Official Position under Article 359, Paragraph 1, and Negligent Work in Service under Article 361, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code.

“From the actions so far, and as detailed in the criminal complaint, it is evident that the reported individuals give legitimacy to ‘students in blockade,’ unidentified persons, rather than legally elected student representatives (student parliaments, student conferences), allowing premises to be usurped for political and terrorist purposes and preventing the regular work of employees and teaching activities for students,” Spasić stated at the time, as reported by this media outlet.
