A bronze statue of former US First Lady Melania Trump has been stolen in her native Slovenia, after a thief cut it off at the ankles, AFP reports.
The sculpture, which was attached to a stump in a field near the town of Sevnica where Melania Trump grew up, disappeared on Tuesday.
Police said the life-size statue was cut off at the feet. “The theft was reported on May 13, and police officers immediately went to the scene and launched an investigation,” a police spokesperson said on Thursday.

The sculpture was created by American conceptual artist Brad Downey and was installed after unknown perpetrators set fire to a previous wooden version of the statue, which represented the former first lady, in 2020. Downey said he was “a little sad that it’s gone.”
“I have a feeling that it has something to do with the new elections (of Donald Trump), but who knows, right?” the artist stated.
Melania Trump was born in 1970 in Novo Mesto and grew up in Sevnica while Slovenia was still part of communist Yugoslavia.
