Professor at the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran, Foad Izadi, says that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is a legitimate form of defense for Iran and that the country is ready to defend itself in the event of a ground invasion. Iranians are like Serbians, they do not want to be bombed and they show this every night on the streets, while Trump and Netanyahu have managed to unite both those for and against the government in Iran, he said in an interview for the RTS Internet portal.

“What is the other choice?” asks Professor Izadi, one of Iran’s leading intellectuals in the field of international relations and public diplomacy.

“We have no other choice. The choice Trump is offering Iran is complete capitulation. Iran cannot completely capitulate. Iran must maintain the borders it has. That is the only choice we have – to resist. And if they want to bring in troops, Iranians will resist. There is no other choice,” Izadi emphasizes.

Article 51 of the UN Charter

Day 16, but the air strikes by the USA and Israel on Iran do not stop. The American Air Force has directed missiles at the Strait of Hormuz and points from which Iran does not allow the passage of oil tankers, which has resulted in record prices for this energy source on the global market.

Professor Izadi says that stopping tankers is a legitimate right of Iran.

“Iran has the right to defend itself, according to Article 51 of the UN Charter. This is called the right to self-defense. And Iran can, according to international law, retaliate by striking American bases. Iran is doing this with ships connected to the USA.

You know, Iranian resources are limited. Therefore, Iran must create costs for the other side, so that it is not attacked every few months. You cannot run a country if you are being attacked by two nuclear regimes, and that creates discomfort for some. But, they must blame Trump because he imposed this unnecessary war. It was a war of choice. They want to change the Iranian government.

If people are paying higher fuel prices, is it because of Iran or because of Trump and Netanyahu? It is because of Trump and Netanyahu, because they started this war,” says Professor Izadi.

War for Iran’s oil reserves

He emphasizes that Iran was attacked because of the country’s oil reserves and in a situation where a diplomatic solution was possible.

“Iran was attacked illegally. Other countries must not be attacked, their leaders killed. There was no UN resolution for the attack on Iran, and a diplomatic solution was available. You probably saw the interview of the Omani Foreign Minister for CBS News, the American television. He said that he could reach an agreement in 24 hours. And he said that Iran was ready to reach a deal, to provide concessions it had not had before.

And Trump illegally attacked Iran. Less than 24 hours after that interview, he spoke about taking over Iranian oil. Lindsey Graham, Trump’s associate and senator, said they would control 21 percent of the world’s oil reserves if they take over Iran. And when they take over Iran, they want to change its borders. Trump spoke about that. They want to separate parts of Iran rich in oil,” Izadi concludes.

Daily bombings and victims

Speaking about the current situation in Tehran, but also in Iran, this professor says that bombings are daily and claims that civilian targets are mostly the focus.

“We had a bombing just a few minutes ago. We have lost more than 1,400 civilians, including 165 girls who died on the first day of the war. At that time, a school was attacked with American ‘Tomahawk’ missiles. They attack hospitals and banks, they attack civilian infrastructure. They attack mosques as well, all civilian areas.

Netanyahu called Palestinians Amalekites (the greatest enemies of Israel in the Hebrew Bible) before the genocide was carried out in Palestine. And last week at an Israeli military base, he called Iranians Amalek.

In their perverted ideology, if they label a country, a people as Amalek, they gain the right to kill the women and children of that people. So they are causing many civilian casualties and destroying a lot of civilian infrastructure. We are facing the Epstein class,” Izadi believes.

Despite the daily bombings, he emphasizes that the people of Iran are determined to defend themselves and demonstrate this every night on the streets, in all cities of the country.

Alluding to claims that internal unrest and a violent regime change in Tehran could occur, this professor ironically states that Iranians are taking to the streets “at the request” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Every night, millions of Iranians take to the streets. That is what Netanyahu asked them to do. And they are doing it. When you ask Iranians to take to the streets in millions, they do so. But, they are shouting against Trump and Netanyahu.”

Similarity with Serbians and “rallying around the flag”

Izadi adds that American President Donald Trump managed to unite Iranians through the “rallying around the flag” effect by bombing, and that they are similar to Serbians in many ways.

“They do not want their country to be bombed. Iranians are like Serbians. Serbians do not like other countries attacking them. Iranians do not like other countries attacking them. Trump managed to unite Iranians more than any Iranian politician ever could.

That is that rally-around-the-flag effect. Even people who did not like the government or did not care. They do not want to be the infantry for genocidal people, for war criminals. They know who Trump is,” concludes Professor Foad Izadi.
