The University will no longer tolerate passivity and a lack of response. We will be forced to take serious measures to protect our students and the academic community, announced the University of Belgrade.
In response to the recent incident in which a driver deliberately endangered the lives of gathered citizens, injuring a female student from the Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Belgrade strongly condemned this act of violence and demanded immediate action from the relevant authorities.
“The University administration has been warning for months about the growing trend of violence and threats to the safety of our students and staff, particularly in the context of peaceful gatherings and protests. Our previous, relatively moderate response was based on the belief that peace and reason were possible, but it is now clear that a much firmer reaction is needed,” the statement emphasized.
The University has demanded that the state urgently provide permanent police protection for participants in such gatherings.
“The safety of all citizens must be an absolute priority, and security services, funded by all of us, are obligated to guarantee safety for everyone, especially those peacefully advocating for their rights,” the University of Belgrade stated.
The female student was injured today on Yuri Gagarin Street when she was hit by a car driven by M. S., who was subsequently detained.
