The Kremlin claims that Ukraine attempted to attack Vladimir Putin’s residence, just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski wished the Russian leader “to perish” during his annual Christmas address.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Monday that Ukraine tried to attack Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod region, and that Moscow’s negotiating position will now change, Interfax reported.
Lavrov: Ukraine Attacked Putin’s Residence
Lavrov claims that 91 long-range drones were involved in the attack.
“On the night of December 28–29, the Kyiv regime launched a terrorist attack using 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles on the state residence of the President of the Russian Federation in the Novgorod region. All drones were destroyed by the air defense systems of the Russian Armed Forces. There are no reports of casualties or damage from drone debris,” Lavrov said, according to TASS.
Lavrov added that “the Kyiv regime has shifted to a policy of state terror.”

Zelenski: This is a Lie!
Zelenski denied the claims, calling them “lies,” and emphasized that Moscow is preparing the ground for an attack on government buildings in Kyiv.
The alleged attack comes at a time when Russia and Ukraine are reportedly approaching peace after nearly four years of conflict.
The Kremlin also stated today that it agrees with U.S. President Donald Trump that peace negotiations on Ukraine are in their “final stage.”
Trump and Zelenski Talks
Trump and Zelenski met on December 28, 2025, at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida to discuss ending the war in Ukraine and a potential peace agreement.
Both the Ukrainian and American presidents stated that a large portion of the proposed plan — covering security guarantees, cessation of hostilities, and a framework for peace — is now nearly finalized.
Zelenski said that significant progress has been made and that the agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine is practically in place.
Trump stated that the sides are “very close” to an agreement, though it has not yet been finalized.
The proposal includes long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. The American leader mentioned a framework of around 15 years with potential European involvement, while Zelenski seeks guarantees lasting approximately 50 years.
The main dispute remains over the status of Donbas and control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
