Petar Živković, a law student at the University of Belgrade, was attacked around two in the morning on Dimitrija Tucovića Street, after leaving a cafe with two female colleagues. According to them, five unknown young men approached them, pushed the girls aside, and beat him for several minutes until his head started bleeding.

After leaving a cafe near the Faculty of Law with several colleagues, Petar separated with two female colleagues and walked down Dimitrija Tucovića Street.

They had previously noticed several young men in the cafe, who suddenly appeared in front of them on the same street.

“There were five of them. They were yelling that some T-shirt of mine bothered them, something related to Zvezda (Red Star), but I’m also a Zvezda fan, so I didn’t understand what they were talking about. They were confused. They approached us and pushed my two female colleagues aside. Then all five of them attacked me, they lifted me up and slammed me against a fence, then hit me in the head until it bled,” Petar told Nova.rs, who was treated at the Urgent Center after the attack.

The attack lasted several minutes.

“My colleagues were frantic, it all lasted a few minutes, we didn’t know what hit us, but I think I saw those five guys in the cafe where we had been sitting with friends before. It’s obvious they had a plan of attack, and I really don’t know the reason. When they finally left me alone and let me go, they ran down the street where a car was waiting for them,” says Petar, who called his father to pick them up and take them to the hospital.

He arrived at the Urgent Center with multiple severe injuries, and his female colleagues were traumatized.

“They immediately bandaged his head, and now there will be scans and further diagnostics. He doesn’t know who these guys are, or why they attacked him. He will file a report; I hope they can identify them. This is terrible, I don’t know what to say, I just can’t believe something like this is happening. We are no longer safe anywhere,” says Bogoljub Živković, Petar’s father, to Nova.rs. He stayed with his son and the law students for the next few hours at the Urgent Center.

It is worth noting that at the end of 2024, during his New Year’s address, the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, when speaking about the protests in Serbia, mentioned certain police generals who, as he said, were meeting with actors, after which, as expected, certain officials in the Ministry of Internal Affairs came under attack from regime tabloids.

Shortly thereafter, police general Bogoljub Živković, Petar’s father, received a decision for early retirement, with the reason being the faculty blockades in which his son was participating.

Furthermore, in late December last year, Petar spoke in the media about student blockades, the prosecutor’s office, violations of the Constitution, and also about Zagorka Dolovac, after which his father, the police general, was served with a retirement decision, with an oral explanation that he was “leaving his job early – because of his son.”

After various targeting that lasted for days in the regime media, Petar stated to Nova.rs at the beginning of this year:

“I am not afraid of anyone or anything, especially not this government, their media, thugs, loyalists. I know all their methods and predictable moves they use, because they constantly repeat the same thing. They don’t know how, and are incapable of doing otherwise. This is an extraordinary situation, and it is clear that we are all fed up and ready for change,” Petar said at the time.
