US President Donald Trump said today that the €120 million fine imposed by the European Union’s technology regulators on the X company of American billionaire Elon Musk is “atrocious.”
He added that he does not understand how European regulators can justify this move.
-Europe is going in some bad directions – Trump told reporters at a White House event.
Trump said he expects to receive a complete report on the EU’s fine for Musk’s social platform X by the end of the day.
-I don’t see how they can do that. Europe must be very careful – Trump said.
He added that Musk had not called him to ask for help on the matter.
On Sunday, Elon Musk called for the abolition of the European Union, after the EU fined his social platform X €120 million for violating transparency laws.
The main lawsuit against the X platform was brought under the Digital Services Act (DSA), the new EU law on content moderation. Following a two-year investigation, the European Commission (EC) ruled against the X network for three violations of the law.
It was determined that the blue checkmark verification was misleading because users could simply pay for the option.
It was also determined that there was a lack of transparency regarding advertisers on the site, which violated protection against fraud and illegal promotions, and that researchers were denied access to data that should be public.
The first violation resulted in a fine of 45 million euros, the second 35 million, and the third 40 million euros.
