President of the United States Donald Trump said last night that he did not resolve wars to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but to save lives, emphasizing that he has no position on the issue of potential Palestinian statehood.
“No one in history has stopped eight wars within a period of nine months, but I did. However, they will do what they want. Whatever they do, it’s fine. I didn’t do it for the award. I did it because I saved many lives,” The Guardian reported.
Trump also expressed optimism regarding the resolution of remaining issues not covered in the initial phases of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza but stressed that he does not wish to take a position on the future of a Palestinian state.
“I have no stance on that. I will accept whatever they agree upon,” the U.S. president emphasized, according to CNN.
Trump also announced that he will travel to Egypt for the official signing of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel and that he has been invited to speak before the Israeli Knesset, which he has also accepted.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday shared on social media an image of Trump with a Nobel medal around his neck, generated by artificial intelligence.
“Give Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize — he deserves it,” Netanyahu wrote on the platform X, following yesterday’s announcement of the ceasefire and the agreement on the release of hostages in Gaza, The Times of Israel reported.
Netanyahu had previously nominated the American president for the Nobel Prize, which the U.S. leader has not hidden his desire to win.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement published yesterday that U.S. President Donald Trump should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize if he brings the world — and above all, the Ukrainian people — a chance for a ceasefire.
The Nobel Committee will announce today the name of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
