At least ten people died in a catastrophic fire that broke out tonight at a retirement home in Tuzla. This is the latest death toll, which rose by one more person around midnight. The previous information was about nine dead. At least five people were admitted to the Tuzla hospital during the evening.
Fire engulfed floor with immobile persons, people suffocated The fire engulfed the seventh floor of the building where the immobile residents of the retirement home were accommodated, reports Klix.ba. According to unofficial information, the death of the victims most likely occurred due to suffocation.
At least five people in hospital, ambulances constantly arriving The fire started around 8:30 PM and was localised around 10 PM, confirmed the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton. Doctors are treating the injured. Among those admitted to the University Clinical Center in Tuzla, most are those poisoned by carbon monoxide. Ambulances were constantly arriving at the hospital.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. The fire broke out on one of the top floors of the building, which made firefighting difficult. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton warned citizens not to approach the facility, to allow passage and action of intervention teams, and to respect the instructions of police officers on the ground. Firefighters from the Public Fire Service Tuzla are on the scene, and teams from Srebrenik, Živinice, Lukavac, and Kalesija have also been called to assist. Emergency services from several municipalities of Tuzla Canton have also been engaged alongside them.
