TRAGEDY IN THE CARIBBEAN: Serbian Chicago Gym Owner Kills Wife, Then Commits Suicide

Investigators are probing the motives behind the alleged murder-suicide that occurred on January 4.

Police in Aruba continue to investigate the deaths of married couple Boris and Kristina Jozić, owners of a gym in Chicago, who were found dead during a New Year’s vacation. While authorities suspect murder-suicide, family and friends are raising funds via GoFundMe to give Kristina, a mother of five, a dignified farewell.

Broken Hearts

“Kristina Gatija was taken from those who loved her on January 4, 2026, and our hearts are indescribably broken. She was a proud mother of five children, a beloved grandmother, a devoted daughter, cherished sister, loved aunt, and dear friend to many. She poured her heart into her family and was deeply passionate about health and fitness, always encouraging others to be their best selves. Whether as a mother, mentor, or friend, Kristina approached life with love, strength, and compassion. With heavy and broken hearts, we share the tragic loss of Kristina. Our family mourns this unimaginable loss and struggles to come to terms with life without her. The outpouring of love, prayers, and support we have received has meant more than we can express,” a GoFundMe post shared by a Serbian supporter reads.

“As we navigate this devastating time, we also face unexpected financial burdens for funeral and related expenses. We are deeply grateful for every donation, no matter the size, as it will help ease stress during this painful period and allow our family to focus on grieving and honoring Kristina’s life. “This fundraising campaign was started by Vera Jovanović, Kristina’s sister-in-law. The beneficiary of this campaign is Trisha Gatija, Kristina’s daughter. All funds raised will be directly transferred to Trisha Gatija and will be used to cover funeral and commemorative arrangements in honor of Kristina,” the post adds.

Luxury Vacation

According to media reports, the Jozić couple was on a New Year’s trip and staying at one of the most luxurious hotels. Judging by photos shared on their joint social media profile, the Chicago-based couple appeared to be enjoying their vacation. Early investigations suggest that Boris allegedly, for reasons not yet known, killed his wife Kristina and then jumped from the top floor of the hotel.

After the horrific scene outside the hotel, investigators entered the room and found Kristina showing no signs of life. Doctors could only confirm the deaths of the couple, whose bodies were sent for autopsy.

On social media, numerous friends have been posting tributes to Kristina, who had provided protein recipes and fitness guidance to her clients.

Boris Jozić was a U.S. citizen, originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Kristina was Filipino.
