At least seven people died when a portion of a ferry dock on Sapelo Island in the US state of Georgia collapsed, causing 20 people to fall into the Atlantic waters, authorities said.

Officials said the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon local time on Sapelo Island, during a celebration of the small community of descendants of African American slaves – the Gullah or Geechee.
