Believers of the Orthodox faith celebrate Saint Apostle James today, and according to folk beliefs, women should do one thing today.
The Serbian Orthodox Church today celebrates Saint Apostle James the son of Zebedee, who was the son of Zebedee and the brother of Saint Apostle John the Theologian. Folk customs say that today you should forgive “evil tongues”; today the sin of slander is forgiven.
At the call of Jesus Christ, James the son of Zebedee left his fishing nets and his father and immediately followed the Lord. He is one of the three apostles to whom the Lord revealed the greatest secrets, before whom He was transfigured on Mount Tabor.
He suffered for his faith in Jerusalem in the year 45. The relics of Saint James were taken to Spain, where they are still located today.
Saint Apostle James preached the Gospel in various lands and went as far as Spain. Upon his return from Spain to Jerusalem, he became as terrifying as thunder to the Jews because he fearlessly preached that Christ Jesus was the true Messiah, the Savior of the world.
According to folk customs, unmarried girls should wash their faces with cold water at midnight to protect their bodies from evil spirits and ensure healthy offspring.
Customs related to tomorrow’s holiday say that it would be good to help someone in trouble, with advice, food, or in any other way, and tradition says that the merciful Apostle James will fulfill every prayer of anyone who shows their Christian virtues tomorrow.
