The students in the blockade of the University of Niš announced that three of their colleagues were arrested last night – Mateja Nikolić, a student of the Faculty of Law in Niš, as well as a student of the Faculty of Philosophy and a student of the Faculty of Economics.
They condemn the lack of transparency regarding the circumstances of their arrests and demand that the authorities provide a clear explanation of the reasons for the arrests, ensure the transparency of the procedure and guarantee fairness in its implementation.
After the gathering of the progressives in the Officers’ Home in Niš was dispersed, because the leaders gave up coming for security reasons, and the gathering of citizens at the location next to it was prevented because strong police forces fenced off this space, the situation on the streets became tense.
Dissatisfied citizens threw eggs and chased the progressives, and the video of the mayor of Niš being hit and doused with water was published on social networks by student Matija Nikolić, who was soon taken to the police station in Niš. Soon his colleagues and citizens gathered in front of the Police Station, and after several hours they learned that he was detained.
The latest announcement of the students was published shortly after 3 am, stating that in fact three of their colleagues were arrested.
