The Mitrović brothers are suspected of inflicting severe bodily harm and violent behavior against the Mayor of Budva, who has been transferred to the Clinical Center of Montenegro.

The President of the Municipality of Budva, Nikola Jovanović, was beaten yesterday in Budva. Jovo Mitrović was arrested for the attack, while Vidak and Bato Mitrović were also taken into custody for violent conduct.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić condemned the attack, but the government remains silent on whether Vidak Mitrović will be removed from his position as a member of the Board of Directors of “Morsko dobro.” Additionally, the Speaker of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić, is also silent on what he will do if it is confirmed that members of his party beat Jovanović, according to Vijesti.

Immediately after the incident, the mayor of Budva accused Jovo and his brother Vidak Mitrović, along with two other individuals, of the assault. “Police officers, in cooperation with and by order of the prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Kotor, carried out a series of operational and tactical measures and actions and deprived of liberty J.M., who is suspected of committing the criminal offense of severe bodily injury to the detriment of the President of the Municipality of Budva, who is currently receiving medical assistance.”

Jovo Mitrović is listed in police records as a person of security interest, while Vidak Mitrović is an official of the New Serbian Democracy (NSD) Budva and a member of the Board of Directors of “Morsko dobro.”

The mayor of Budva told “Vijesti” yesterday, after the attack, that he was at the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) in Podgorica, where he underwent a brain scan, was on an IV drip, and was awaiting examination by a maxillofacial surgeon.

“Vijesti” confirmed shortly before 3 PM that Jovanović had sustained severe bodily injuries and was admitted for treatment.

Sources for “Vijesti” stated that Jovanović was attacked near the city pool, where he was sitting with friends.

The Police Administration later officially announced that Jovanović reported to the Budva Security Department yesterday that he had been physically attacked by several individuals known to him while he was in a catering establishment on Slovenska Plaža.

The police statement also noted that the President of the Municipality of Budva sustained injuries on that occasion, which would be classified by a specialist doctor.

“The prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Kotor has been informed of the incident, and police officers are taking urgent measures and actions on his orders to determine all facts and circumstances of this event, and to locate and prosecute the perpetrators. The public will be timely informed of the further course of activities and the outcome of police-prosecutorial actions,” the Police Administration stated.

During the local election campaign, Jovanović made a series of accusations against the Mitrović brothers, linking them to criminal activities. His political group and the NSD, whose members are the attackers, are on opposing sides in the local political scene, but they previously ran together in elections as part of the former Democratic Front. In the campaign and after the formation of the government, the local NSD accused Jovanović of cooperating with criminals as well.
