The Cathedral Church of the Holy Mother of God in Zenica, as well as the land around the temple, were recently registered as “state property,” announced the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Serbs in the Federation of BiH. They warn that this is another blow to the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in FBiH.
The Director of the Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Arnaud Gujon, says that this act represents systemic discrimination against Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

-And there is more and more evidence for that! Recently, I pointed out the case of a seized Orthodox cemetery and chapel in Mostar, and today we have an example of the seizure of an entire church in Zenica, more than 140 years old, which is also a national monument of BiH – says Gujon in a post on “X”.
-In practice, this means that the ownership rights of Serbs, whether it is private or religious property, are placed under a suspicious process of “harmonization of land registries,” after which property that was in Serbian ownership is transferred to the state of BiH. This is no “coincidence,” this is a pattern: the same law, the same practice, the same outcome against the Serbian community – Gujon concluded.
