Milan Đurić has submitted his irrevocable resignation from the position of mayor of Novi Sad.
“As a responsible person and a responsible politician, I submit my irrevocable resignation from the position of mayor of Novi Sad. Stability and calming tensions and stopping further divisions in society are key conditions for further progress and development of Novi Sad and improving the lives of Novi Sad residents,” Đurić stated, as announced by the Novi Sad City Administration.
Đurić added that he considers submitting his resignation to be his “human and political obligation and moral duty.”
“In moments when society is facing enormous tensions, which are becoming more complex, threatening to cause further and deeper divisions, including the recent violent attack on a student, to whom I wish a speedy recovery, as someone who believes in the power of dialogue and mutual understanding, I believe that accepting responsibility and submitting a resignation is my human and political obligation and moral duty,” Đurić said.

He once again called on the police to find the attackers on the student as soon as possible, and for the judicial authorities to punish them in accordance with the law.
“Submitting a resignation is not an expression of weakness or withdrawal in the face of challenges, but an act of taking responsibility and opening up space for restoring trust among citizens. This decision is an expression of my deep respect for the citizens of Novi Sad and my faith in democratic processes and the belief that in this way I will contribute to calming tensions and creating space for constructive dialogue and the continuation of projects for further improvement of the lives of all Novi Sad residents,” Đurić stated.
He added that he is proud of everything that the city administration has done for the City of Novi Sad and its residents in previous years.
