President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that the U.S. will begin selling “golden tickets” worth five million dollars to foreigners who wish to move to the country.
“Wealthy people will come to this country by purchasing this ticket. They will be rich, they will be successful, they will spend a lot of money, pay high taxes, and employ many people,” Trump told reporters at the White House, according to the Associated Press.
He stated that the golden ticket is similar to a green card for permanent residency in the United States, “but at a higher level of sophistication.”
Trump emphasized that the “golden ticket” would grant its holders long-term access to U.S. citizenship.
Russian oligarchs, most of whom are under U.S. sanctions due to the war in Ukraine, may potentially be eligible to apply for this program.
“I know some Russian oligarchs who are very good people,” Trump said, adding that it is “possible” they qualify for the program.

He also stated that the new immigration program could be operational within two weeks.
The “golden tickets” will replace the EB-5 immigration program, which allowed foreign investors to create jobs in the U.S. and qualify for permanent residency by investing large sums of money.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Latnik said that the existing program was prone to fraud and represented “a way to obtain a green card at a low cost.”
