THEY DIDN’T ACCOUNT FOR SNOW IN JANUARY: Canopy collapses at children’s ice rink in Inđija, citizens had warned about poor construction!

At the ice rink in Inđija, a canopy collapsed today, and according to initial information, the cause of the incident was a large amount of snow that accumulated on the structure. Snow has been falling heavily in Inđija for hours, which further burdened the facility which, according to eyewitnesses, was not adequately prepared for such conditions.

At first glance, the canopy structure appeared weak and insufficiently stable. Citizens claim that for days they had been warning the competent authorities that certain pillars were very poorly secured and that there was a risk of collapse, especially in the event of heavy precipitation.

So far, there is no information about any injuries, and the competent services have gone out to the site and secured the area in order to prevent public access. It is expected that the competent authorities will conduct an investigation and determine responsibility, as well as examine whether safety standards were observed during the installation of the canopy.

Citizens of Inđija are appealing to local authorities to urgently carry out inspections of similar temporary structures in the town in order to avoid potentially more serious incidents under conditions of extreme weather.
