At this year’s Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), held from December 2nd to 11th, 2024 in Bucharest, the Serbian team achieved exceptional results, bringing home a total of six medals. The competition, which was attended by over 60 countries, brought together young talents from all over the world, and Serbian students stood out with their outstanding knowledge and skills.
Filip Kilibarda, a student at the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade, is the proud winner of a gold medal, demonstrating exceptional knowledge in all disciplines covered at the Olympiad. Filip’s success is a great boost for the further development of the Serbian scientific community, and his medal represents the result of years of hard work and dedication.
In addition to Kilibarda, the team from the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade won four more medals. Stefan Sekulić Derdovski and Bogdan Milovanović deservedly won silver medals, while Aleksa Nikolić and Damjan Tropin won bronze medals.

In addition to them, Nemanja Maslak from Kragujevac joined the team with a bronze medal, further increasing Serbia’s success at this prestigious competition.
The team of Serbian competitors was led by experienced leaders and experts in the field of science: Prof. Dr. Mićo Mitrović from the Faculty of Physics in Belgrade, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Marković from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Kragujevac, and Professor Marko Milošević. Their expertise and dedication contributed to the great successes of the Serbian team.
This outstanding success of Serbian students at the IJSO 2024 once again confirms the high level of education and talented young people who will, we are sure, continue to achieve success on the world scientific stage.
