Patricia Kaunda from distant Zambia fell in love with a guy from Serbia five years ago. She married him and moved to Serbia in 2023.

This young couple is now expecting a baby after several years of relationship, and Patricia, from a foreigner’s perspective, has shared what it’s like to be pregnant in Serbia.

She highlights as a particularly good thing that pregnant women here have various privileges and rights, such as free dental services and regular gynecological check-ups.

“It’s very good to be pregnant in Serbia. Here, for example, you get free dental care when you are pregnant. You have free dental check-ups, and it’s also free if a tooth needs to be repaired, extracted, or something similar. That’s very good. Also, here you regularly go for baby ultrasounds. Check-ups are done at regular intervals, and you can go to a public hospital or privately, but healthcare workers even in public hospitals are very kind,” she says.

The state helps young mothers and families, so for the first child, a parental allowance of as much as 500,000 dinars is received.

“The state gives an allowance of about 4,000 euros for the first baby, which is very good, and it especially means a lot if, for example, you are not working or are not in a good financial situation,” says Patricia, adding that, in addition to all this, there are pharmacies and shops in Serbia that give away special packages or coupons for parents of newborn babies.

“In the packages, you can get diapers and baby cosmetics, and there are also coupons that can be used to get cheaper things for the baby,” says Patricia, adding that the state is very considerate towards people and really helps.

“So, if you are pregnant or thinking about having a baby, don’t worry, it’s really good here,” emphasizes this beautiful girl.
